While cruising through Wikipedia, i found this:

Today's peeve is people who, probably as an extension of fancy plurals such as "indices" from "index", pronounce "processes" as "process-seas."

The English word 'abalone' comes from the Rumsen word 'aulon', which apparently meant "mermaid pussy".

Our local taco joint must have been channeling the Midvale School for the Gifted lately.  "Se abre por fuera" translates as "it opens from the outside", which implies that, what, it can't be opened from inside?  Tricky.

This odd bit of language brought to you by transliteration: "No juegue en el arco", meaning "do not play in goal".  This is a very small field at Off the Wall Soccer where the teams play 3 on 3 without goalkeepers.

Whenever i'm faced with an English term of recent coinage that seems impossible to translate into Spanish due to the fact that my Spanish vocabulary effectively stopped growing in 1990 (e.g., "venture capital"), i head to Wikipedia and hope that some enterprising soul has written an article in Spanish and that it has been connected to its English version.

In English, we have Black, White, Brown, and Green.  There are many people in Asia and of Asian descent with the surname Tan, but that's just a coincidence.  Vermeil is a bright shade of red in French, Purpura refers to a dye from a mollusc.  What other surnames am i missing?

Kim and i recently went to SFSU to see elmuchacho perform with the jazz band.  Before the show got started, i went to the bathroom.  While taking care of business, i noticed the graffiti which all had various recognizable phrases that contained 'out', but the graffiti all turned that into 'grout'.  Most of the graffiti was appropriately written on the grout itself.  I captured some of the witticisms with my phonecam (yes, while i was peeing; what can i say, i got skills).
