en_ki brought to my attention
elsejournal, an effort to decentralize journals. Since i have a genetic defect that precludes any possibility of generating useful code, i'll probably just bring my typical idea-based energy, throw out some documents, and in general irritate people when i point out, "UR DOIN IT RONG." Because that worked so well back when my tilted windmill was Usenet II.
I know some of you care. And of those, some might actually have the time to put something up.

blast from the past
Feb. 23rd, 2008 03:48 pmUsenet II is in a persistent vegetative state these days, but there was a time when i had a good amount of hope for it. I still believe in the core ideas behind it, but i know now that a widespread implementation would be a much taller task than i expected then.

PLONK POR TROLL!!
Jul. 28th, 2004 06:19 pmI've run into my first news.groups-like flamewar on esp.* (
allbery is, without doubt, feeling some small amount of schadenfreude right now). Right now, esp.binarios.discusion, which purpose is to discuss the binaries being posted to the rest of the esp.binarios.* hierarchy, is overwhelmed with spam, off-topic content, and flames generated by the off-topic content. So now people want a new newsgroup, but there's a lot of whining and sabotaging going on. I've demanded that interested parties e-mail me their position, just so i can make some sense out of it all, because i am not going to wade through their crap. Now i just have to find the time to read it and make an executive decision.

The redoubtable Joe Manfre has alerted me that yesterday was the 10th anniversary of ARMM.
Of course, this just makes me feel old, as it makes me realize i've been on Usenet for 12 years.
