Anyone know what the deal is with the clowns who list "six degrees of deception" as an interest, all have strangely capitalized backdated entries, all have accounts created within the last week, and most of whom have icons that depict a pirate?

This is not just about livejournal. The first mention I remember was somewhere on Richard Hell's website in '99 or 2000. It's a long-term activism/art/identity project started by Nick Zedd, I believe.

Yeah, the trail seem to end up somewhere near him. I guess it's easier for performance artists to add a LiveJournal interest than to make a dumpling out of their dead skin cells and eat it.
