[livejournal.com profile] tongodeon and [livejournal.com profile] opadit asked this a few weeks ago.  I've been mulling it over and i realize i have two:

  • Trimming my mustache.  I have to make sure that the hair does not creep over my lips, and that there aren't any stray long hairs.  I will do this constantly, sometimes even at work.
  • Reorganizing my wine 'racks'.  My 'cellar' consists of two wine boxes on their sides, a polystyrene 12-bottle holder that i cut down so it would fit on the shelf, one modular Lincoln-Logesque rack, and one wire rack i got from [livejournal.com profile] davewsmith_blog.  I organize the wine so they're together by varietal, older vintages on top.  But do the black muscat and zinfandel port go with the dessert wines or with the red wines?  How do i position blends?  I only have two syrahs; what should i put in the available third spot?

My clothes in the closet have to all be facing the same way and have to be arranged in order - dresses, skirts, pants, long sleeve shirts, t shirts, tank tops, business suits.

In my wine rack I tend to try and keep the varietials together - Chardonnays, Syrahs, Burgundies, Bourgognes, Gewurtztraminers ...

Hm, I'd say the muscat and port go with the dessert wines, or at least with "specialty wines."

I would position blends in between the varietals that they are closest to. I don't think there is any right or wrong way; just pick a system that's easy for you to understand.

In the third spot - if you have a fourth zin or beaujolais, put it there.

I just finished reorganizing the wine.

Wire rack: six zins, one zin/mourvedre, two mourvedres, two charbonos, one "red wine"

Lincoln log rack: six cab sauvs, one cab sauv/malbec, one malbec, four cab francs

Polystyrene case: ten dessert wines

Box #1: five rosés, seven whites

Box #2: one shiraz, one shiraz/grenache, two syrahs, one pinot noir/syrah, one Norton ("a native American grape that has amazing resistance to disease, [and] has been a primary Missouri wine for many years"), one sangiovese, one pinotage, one merlot, one petit verdot

Me, neither. Bought it on a lark. It's sometimes blended in small quantities with cabernet sauvignon.

Syrah is functionally equivalent to shiraz (or, as I put it when I'm a couple of glasses in, "Shiraz-- it's Australian for Syrah!"). That may help with that third slot.

Otherwise, I suggest filling it with another syrah you go and acquire for that purpose.

*gasp* I have four empty spaces in my cellar! This is unsupportable!

I immediately distrust any 'shiraz' from California.

Good lord, man! How can you even survive such a terrible state of being?

And I agree. That does sound like somebody in California trying way too hard.

Petit verdot? "Little greenie"?

This wine business is opaque to me.
My best OCD fillip is that, like Roger Rabbit, if someone says half of a catchphrase, saying, or song lyric, I have to finish it. Doesn't really work in print, thank goodness.

I tend to the packrat side of OCD. I have to fight with myself to actually discard things. I have computer magazines from the '80s, that cover languages that aren't used anymore.
