my ass hurts, but it's worth it
Mar. 1st, 2004 10:40 amGot to UC Davis's ticket site at 10:00 sharp to buy two Pixies tickets. No dice. I hit reload once... nothing. Twice... boom! I bought two tickets for $25 each, plus $15.75 (!) in fees. Only two months to go!

Date: 2004-03-01 12:57 pm (UTC)My wife loves both No Doubt and Blink 182, and they're playing together at the Tweeter Center in Camden right after our anniversary, so tickets to that show would be a great and thoughtful gift.
Unfortunately, I missed the 1.4817E-09 second window during which tickets were available for sale at face value.
This (http://www.stubhub-tickets.com/?event_id=55286&RequestTimeout=500) is what I'm looking at for ticket prices. Even shitty screwed-if-it-rains Lawn seats start at over $80+ apiece. Two seats even reasonably close and centered? Three hundred and up. And this is THREE MONTHS before the concert; I can only imagine what they'll be like a week before.
Joy.

Date: 2004-03-01 01:15 pm (UTC)I can live with No Doubt, though their early stuff was better. The rest of the band seems to be standing around as Gwen says "Okay, you see this _here?_ This is the musical direction we'll be going in from now on. Horn section, you are DISMISSED."
Blink's drummer used to be in the Aquabats, so there's at least one cool point, and I have a soft spot for bands who release songs about wanting to sodomize someone's mom and dad but settling for the dog. Don't ask me why.

Date: 2004-03-01 01:26 pm (UTC)I can play all sorts of cool and oddball music at her -- Frank Zappa, Robert Johnson, Wesley Willis, XTC, Bela Fleck, the Dead Kennedys, King Missile, the Specials -- and she'll enjoy it. She likes the Ramones. She likes James Brown. She likes NOFX. She likes the White Stripes. She likes just about everything in my collection, from Crack the Sky to the Humpty Dance.
And then she'll put in one of her mix CDs and I'll hear artists that make me want to ignore all of the warnings on Q-Tip boxes.
Same deal with movies. She can follow Duck Soup with Jeepers Creepers 2 or El Mariachi with Superstar without hemorrhaging.
I'm not sure whether it's a gift or a curse, really.

Date: 2004-03-01 01:01 pm (UTC)Could anyone please point me to relevant sources of mp3s or such (no P2P-client currently a/v)? I'm going to see them at the Aerodrom festival anyway, and am considering if they or the bands on the other stage are more interesting...
