I've written about the horror that is the Flavia Beverage System.  Equinix's facility at Lundy Av also has one of these terrible machines.  I have documented the process for you, with the help of my new Nokia 6102i (which replaced my old Nokia 6102, which broke after i dropped it on [livejournal.com profile] thib_gc's kitchen floor while in my cups).

The Iron Maiden.  Note the packets sitting innocently atop the infernal device.

Pick your poison.

It looks sinister, but i assure you only good can come of this.

I select a victim.  No, wait, that's me.  Note the square plastic tip.

The square plastic tip proves that the contraption is armed and ready to deliver its toxic payload.

Almost, but not entirely unlike coffee.  Share and Enjoy.™

I note that for the first time since I've followed your LJ, your music selection is one we have in common. Good performance, too.

Hey, I've got one of those. Next to the Pepsi machine. Except I couldn't find one with a coin dispenser, so the Flavia machine works for free. Zhanna's students like it because it gives coffee, tea, etc. NOW NOW NOW instead of having to wait for it to brew.

Within 10 minutes of drinking a Flavia coffee my entire gi tract is in discomfort and making horrible noises. Things only get worse after that.

I actually like the one at our work. Of course, I don't drink coffee - I use it for herbal teas, of which there are quite a few. And I find it makes nicer herbal teas then just dunking a teabag in a cup, which is my other (easy) option.

Never had its coffee, though

My last job in NYC had one of those things. Ptui. I think they're actually a conspiracy to convince people that it's perfectly reasonable to pay Starbucks $3.00 for a double espresso.

We have a broken Tassimo, and I have a HomeCafe pod maker at my desk along with a still-boxed Keurig.

Any coffeemaker is only as good as what you put into it. I've made good coffee with the HomeCafe and my other Keurig, but can't make anything drinkable with the Tassimo. Might not help that they never cleaned it and the center stem is broken. But even when it was brand spanking new, it sux0red.

And yes, somewhere around the office I have a grind-and-brew coffeemaker.

The tea they make is OK, but I find it hard to deal with wasting so much plastic for my daily tea habit, so when in the one office which has one (provided by the facilities people of the building, not my company) I tend to make tea with the kettle.
Coffee's always bad.

I might, perhaps, know someone who works for the firm that designed the personal version (https://www.myflavia.com/myflavia/RetailExtensions/Shopfusion.aspx) of this machine.

And I've heard, though of course it's just hearsay, that the Chief Mechanical Engineer for that firm, after the project was done, said, "Yeah, it came out really nice. The coffee sucks, though."

In an entirely unrelated incident, we have a little Nespresso espresso single-serv machine in our office that makes a surprisingly good brew. If I were going to buy one for my home, I'd buy from them.

We have one of those. We also have something that instantly dispenses near-boiling water for people who prefer to make their own hot drinks. Finally, we have a Gaggia machine.

Incomprehensibly, there are people who prefer the Flavia, notwithstanding the hilarious and bizarre error messages you get from the Gaggia, of which my favorite is:

Frankly I think the Nokia and the Flavia go together; one produces pictures that resemble real pictures the way the other's coffee resembles real coffee.
