Wow, it's 01:00 and i'm being micromanaged by the boss's boss.  I'd forgotten what micromanagement felt like.  IT FEELS LIKE DIGGING THROUGH MY OWN SHIT TO SEE IF I CAN RECOGNIZE WHAT I ATE.  I'M NOT EVEN ON CALL, GOD DAMN YOU.

Wow, your phone is on?

Okay, this makes me Not A Team Player, but my phone goes very carefully ignored while I'm not on call. Also, I only get paid for 40 hours a week (and my contract says so in writing!) so when quitting time rolls around, off I go.

On the other hand, I have my boss sufficiently intimidated that he no longer tries to call me during off hours unless something really big exploded. And my grandboss doesn't speak English anyway, and I've also carefully cultivated a (quite false, thanks) reputation for knowing no Japanese.

The product is going live today, Gmail-style public. So it was important that i keep an eye on my Skype. As it turned out, we had a major (albeit easily fixed) problem crop up.

Also, part of the problem was that the on-call dude wasn't answering his phone, and my boss was out having fun.

This all started at 22:00, which i don't really find unreasonable, but we should have been done with this particular fix before midnight. Boss's boss was dragging it out out of paranoia (which, given the particular bug, i can somewhat understand).

I get that, and I don't even have an important job. One bug must mean that there are THOUSANDS OF BUGS just waiting to spring, because geez, if you missed that one, there's no telling what you missed!

Hey boss? Board meeting is the first Tuesday of every month. You get to look forward to it all month. Really. Howcome you never find problems with my work for three weeks, and suddenly, though I have changed nothing, I can't get a thing right and have to come in on both of my days off (or, days "off" as I've come to know them) to fix it?

Boss: "Are you SURE this new system is RoHS compliant?"

Me: "EVERYTHING we manufacture after July 1st, is RoHS compliant."

Boss: "But are you SURE?"
