I notice that the Sparkling Wine (American) video linked above has a companion video, about opening Champagne (French) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QEgLXodM1g), which is also funny, if a bit less dramatic.

Other articles about this critical survival skill have claimed that different manufactures of wine bottle break in different ways, specifically warning against trying it with American champagne. So the origin of the wine is not merely tangential information.
