The DBA Manager has quit, due to the same cause as my boss's imminent departure. This is not surprising. However, in talking to him, it has become clear to me that pursuing my boss's job is an indisputable sign that i am absolutely fucking insane. And yet, the alternatives (the DCM manager, or else some new person who will, no doubt, have pointy hair) are less palatable.

I have to do this. If things go well enough for a year or so, i'll have grown in all the right ways. If not... well, things were probably going to shit anyway.

You were always good at keeping me on track at MM, helping me out in various projects when I couldn't get a stupid script to work properly, or lend a helping hand with various jobs when I slammed up against a wall. I think you would make an excellent manager, any PFY would be honored to be the BOFH's bitch :-)
