President Bush commuted the sentence of former aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby Monday, sparing him from a 2 1/2-year prison term in the CIA leak case. [...] Bush's move came hours after a federal appeals panel ruled Libby could not delay his prison term in the CIA leak case.

"I respect the jury's verdict," Bush said in a statement.

*snort*

"But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive. Therefore, I am commuting the portion of Mr. Libby's sentence that required him to spend thirty months in prison."

Sure, it's OK to fry the mentally ill, but treason? Jail time is "excessive".

I would say "unfuckingbelievable" except that it is, in fact, fucking believable.

Paris Hilton ends up having more jailbird street credibility than Scooter Libby. Who'da thunk it?

On Sept. 30, 2003, Mr. Bush said he was eager to find out if there had been "a leak" from his administration about Mrs. Wilson. "I want to know who it is," he said. "And if the person has violated law, the person will be taken care of." -- Bush Says He'll Fire Any Aide Who 'Committed a Crime' (http://tinyurl.com/3ayv3q), David Stout, New York Times, 18 July 2005

Dude, he's totally been taken care of! Just like Bush said! He's totally a man of his word. All you liberal mushheads need to stop trying to read between the lines, and just read the actual lines! 'Taken care of'! SHEESH!

Seriously, is he just trying to see if he can get that approval rating down into the single digits now?

I think he's just annoyed that his approval rating is still higher than the Legislature's.

Man, why couldn't he just wait till the last 30 minutes of his Administration and bury it in a midnight flurry of pardons for all his buddies in one huge mass, like the last guy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Clinton_pardons_controversy#Pardons_and_commutations_signed_on_final_day_in_office)?

because his goal was to stop libby from going to jail NOW?

much like Ford didn't wait to the end of his term to pardon Nixon?

This is second-hand, but "a pardon would mean that Libby was no longer exposed to criminal sanctions and thus had no Fifth Amendment privilege. As it stands he has a fine and probation at stake during the pendency of the appeal which insulates him (and Bush and Cheney) from having to answer questions before Congress."

I would say that burning in hell is too good for him, but I might be tempted to say some things about how I really feel.

If we take to the streets and demand his re-instatement as President-for-Life, he'll issue a blanket pardon and free BBQ for all!

what is the problem???

I'm thinking about staying out of the country until a new president takes office . . . he's an idiot. I don't really like having other people make decisions for me as-is, but it really makes me fucking irate when the person isn't even of DECENT mental capacity and lacks basic logic & consistency.

joder.
