(yes, yes, 'nerd prom' is ™ warren ellis and san diego comic-con)
This year's DunDraCon was a lot of fun. On Friday, i registered and hung out in anotherdave's zombie game
(which was played under , which counted not one, but two couples among its players. At the break, we chatted a bit, and after that i took off to confirm whether i'd gotten into my morning games; i didn't, so i dropped by the room where vajrabot's Fates Worse Than Death system)
palecur and
amywithani were playing. It turned out a bunch of their friends were there, so i got to say hi to
deirdremoon and
devonapple, as well as meet
racerxmachina. Best of all,
tronpublic treated me by playing Michael Hedges's "Ragamuffin" on the guitar, with every little flourish. Marvelous work, sir.
On Saturday, i saw vampyrecat,
vajrabot, and
victortenzin, and
vampyrecat generously gave me her priority slip, which i used to get into Bruce Mattos's game, which is the one game every year that i don't want to miss. This year's game wasn't quite as good as previous games, with the ending being rather anticlimactic, mostly due to poor play on behalf of certain party members.
On Sunday, i ended up in Peter Christian's game that was geared towards "beginning players, ages 10+". I played with three boys and three girls that were around 12, and the father of two of the boys. The game was a lot of fun; the setting was a California about 200 years ago, but with orcs, kobolds, and dragons. There was one conversation that left me shaking my head:
[DM mentions something about orcs pillaging a rancho]Overall, there were a lot more women and kids than i normally see, and that's a great sign.
RANGER GIRL: "Remember, it's loot first, then pillage!"
SPECTATOR GIRL: "Oh, yeah! I saw that on a T-shirt!"
RANGER GIRL: "And before those two, first you rape!"
CLERIC BOY: "There's something wrong about that."
ME: "Something very, very wrong."
