Maybe someone can call Larry fucking Ellison and get him to spend some of his yacht racing petty cash on a goddamn QA box.

REPRODUCIBILITY:

Inhouse cannot find solaris 10 X86-64(AMD64) testbox.

Fucking losers. Oracle is going to collapse in on themselves through sheer incompetence... And Microsoft will rape the remains.

Does SUNW even sell those boxes? When I regularly used Solaris on x86-64 about five years ago, Solaris 9 was the red-headed stepchild in their OS product line. Lots of shit didn't work right on Solars x86-64. Unless Sun has switched to selling AMD64 boxes recently and abandoned SPARC, I don't think I would be terribly annoyed.

Building out a Solaris x86 box from custom parts used to be a perilous process. Has it gotten better?

Sun has really gotten on the ball with hardware. They still sell SPARC, of course, but they offer a lot of good AMD boxes (and at competitive prices). And, yes, driver support has gotten better; we have x64 running on various no-name boxes at work.

I'm still scarred by my efforts to install Solaris x86 (i think it was 2.6) just over seven years ago. Jumpstart was brutally stupid, so i installed the OS manually on 20 tank-like servers that were going to London, except they didn't.
