english: drive on the left. french: conduire a droite (drive on the right).

For the non-francophone reader, the spray-painted part of the sign says, "Drive on the right."  Thanks to David Richerby.

It's also the wrong verb form. "Conduire" means "to drive". It should be "Conduisez".

"To be driving on right"? So what would you call that? Franceish (à la Engrish)?

Frequently, official notices and brief, direct signs use the infinitive as if "Il faut" is omitted. It would sort of come across as "One must drive on the right." Entering a tunnel, for instance, you could see "Allumer les phares," as opposed to "Allumez vos phares." That said, I've never been to any point of entry in England where there might be signs for Continental tourists just off a ferry, so I'm not sure what the usual usage is.

The Irish ones generally say "conduire a gauche". I can't recall seeing any English ones. The Irish ones crop up in the weirdest of places, too; there used be one about a mile from my parents' house, far, far away from any point of entry (about 40 miles from the nearest ferry, for example)

If they make it that far to your humble origins it's only fair that we show our affection for their quest by fearing for their safety and instruct them to drive left.
