Since i'll be nerding it up at Dundracon next weekend, Kim decided to celebrate Valentine's Day early, and started by upgrading my LJ account to paid status. Whee!... what now?

Next, we had then planned to see The Triplets of Belleville but we got stuck working in the yard in the afternoon and the last local showing was at 17:00 (lame), so we went to dinner instead. We went to Transilvania, a Romanian restaurant in Los Gatos. Entrées were in the $12-20 range, but the food wasn't quite that good... i dunno. We had been thinking Indian but the Indian place was packed so we tried something new, so maybe my brain was expecting food that had a bit more seasoning. However, the meal was more noteworthy because of three things: a couple of mille-feuilles-type pastries served as amuse-bouche (very, very good... the main ingredient was butter, sure, but oh so good), the wine, and the horrible couple next to us.

Today The Boy, Kim and i went to Dark Carnival to meet with our friend Penny for her birthday. The store has very cool atmosphere (as well as temperature... brrr). The Boy found a Green Lantern graphic novel written by Larry Niven. I discovered horror books written by twohitwonder-cum-morningradioshowhost Greg "Captain Tin Foil Hat" Kihn. Kim discovered a new short story by Katherine Dunn. Penny discovered Steven Brust's The Phoenix Guards (well, i pointed her at it after she asked for a starting point for Brust). We then had an early dinner at Nan Yang, Burmese food at the Oakland/Berkeley border. Good stuff, but their food is white-man hot, so we'll have to ask for a Scoville upgrade next time. We accompanied the food with a gewürztraminer from Husch Vineyards; nice, with a slight tingle up front, but lacking a bit in the finish. Then again, i think i was in the mood for a slightly sweeter wine (i asked for a Madrona gewürz, but they were out).

In other news, tukro.com is ready for your trenchant comments, although it seems to be semi-functional, much like the site it parodies. Who knew?
