I pronounce the second syllable of sequel and SQL differently, so, 'sekwil' and 'sekwuhl.'

i insisted on es que el for a long time, but finally gave up because everyone i work with insists on sequel.

i so still say es ay pee, even tho' the folks who actually have to deal with them think it's something that flows inside trees.

I said "ess cue ell" even when working at Oracle where everybody said "sequel". But I call Oracle's SQL*foo "squeal splat foo".

BTW: Oracle internally uses (or at least, did in 1993) the worst email system ever devised - it makes Bloated Stoats look good in comparison.

I pronounce it 'skool'. Also, 'tickle/teek,' 'sap,' 'huddaduhpuh' (http://), 'dubdubdub' (www), 'eff-tip' (ftp), 'rip-see' (RPC), and 'sigmil' (SGML).

I do spell out SOAP, though, just to be perverse.

You'd best not say "huddaduhpuh" in my presence or i might just huddaduhpuh you in the head.

The first time I wrote that I say "wuhwuhwuh," the inevitable response was, "You would."

'ess-cue-ell', 'my-ess-cue-ell', 'post-gress-cue-ell', and 'sequel server'. This stems largely from dealing with MCSEs who developed their skills in an entirely different culture than the academic/unix folk I deal with.

'sequel' is not entirely correct, as Sequel was the query language developed by the same people which predated SQL. However, I call it 'sequel' anyway.

PostgreSQL is post-gress-quell because it's "postgres" with "QL" added, not "postgre" with "SQL" added.

Around here, the "Q" and "L" in PostgreSQL are silent.

But Postgres and PostgreSQL are different things, so that confuses the issue.

I use either "Sequel" or "S. Q. L." AFAICT I say "Sequel server" but say "S. Q. L." when I'm talking about the language. Go fig.

"ess cue ell" when it's standalone, but if it's part of another word, generally "sequel".

When I was learning SQL at DeVry, I tried to say "squeal" as often as possible to see if it would catch on. It didn't.
