I was just talking about this sort of thing with a friend. I've decided that we (America) has created a monster who cannot be fed in our government, yet, without government, we really would be a society of apes killing each other for a pair of shoes. Not just the occasional occurrence, mind you, but gangs of shoe murdering rednecks would roam the countryside with necklaces made of Nikes.

Aside from the fact that you are basically referring to the world described in "Jennifer Government" by Max Barry, which is an entertaining if simplistic read, I think you're wrong. "Without government" is such an easy phrase to utter, but we'll never get rid of government until we have a well-informed population, and then we can get rid of government and all will probably be well. Hope we can do this before the oil runs out.
