i have a "musical icon" in my pants
Apr. 21st, 2004 04:10 pmA healthy society needs censorship to survive, 1950s musical icon Pat Boone said yesterday. He added that he would welcome strong content restrictions governing movies and other artistic works.
"I don't think censorship is a bad word, but it has become a bad word because everybody associates it with some kind of restriction on liberty," said Mr. Boone.

suppose society decided that the content that needed to be restricted wasn't swear words, sex, or violence, but *nostalgia*.
suppose there was severe censorship of '20s, 30s, 40s, and '50s material, on the grounds that such material reminds people of historical time periods with greater social disparities and injustice. suppose someone decided that '50s music tends to make people think the '50s was a *better* time than the present day, and lures people into suggesting that "seperate but equal" and widespread government support of christianity over other religions was a "good thing".
so they ban '50s music. and ban Pat Boone.
do you still think censorhip is a good thing? still welcoming that strong content restriction?

Date: 2004-04-21 06:18 pm (UTC)How about content warning instead? I like knowing ahead of time if there will be boobs, er I mean, content that might not be appropriate for whatever my agenda of the day is? And frankly, I seek out certain content - take the movie "28 days later" for example. I knew exactly what I was in for...
