So, say you were meeting a new person--blind date, new friend, who knows. And you wanted them to have some idea of what kind of person you are, and who you are. But you can't actually tell them in so many words. Instead, you have to give them a box, with a dozen things in it for them to look at/read/listen to/taste/whatever. "What would you put in the box? And a copy of your journal or a link to your LJ would be the same thing as just telling them directly, yourself, so that's not allowed.

Items 1-4 would be four CDs: King Crimson's Discipline, Duke Ellington's The Far East Suite-Special Mix, Juan Luis Guerra 4.40's Areito, and Throwing Muses' untitled album.

5) A jar of Nutella.

6) A bag of lentils.

7) A half-pound of Atlantic scallops (the big ones, not the puny bay scallops).

8) The D&D 3.5 player's handbook.

9) A soccer ball.

10) A Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito T-shirt.

11) A bottle of Inniskillin Vidal icewine.

12) My cracked aluminum baseball bat, Opie.

Geez. I wish you'd've warned me about the scallops - I didn't refrigerate, and now they've gone bad.

The box is a magical box that keeps things at their optimal temperature. So the scallops will be refrigerated, and the icewine will be chilled.

I'd have to drink the icewine first. Because, yum.

scallops make my face break out, but that's an interesting list. I wish sometime, since you and 2wanda study up on wines, that I could see a list of your faves. I sometimes see some wines at a health food store, including some imports; they are organic wines. I wonder if any that you like are the sort I'd find there. I should put 2wanda in my friends list so i can easily get to her site sometimes and ask her about that sort of thing and glucosamine (since she evidently knows about it, from what you said) but i was afraid that my own journal would bore her since i haven't had time to do much with it.

here might be some items for my list:

1. my Here Comes Success band of susans tshirt

2. my kabf benefit show tshirt from a show i participated in years ago

3. my wevl tshirt from being a longtime member and former dj there

4. a tub of blackbean hummus for dipping tortilla chips in

5. a dub of the new 50 foot wave group doing any of their tunes, as i do like what i've heard as much as anything else kristin did before

6. a dvd of some work i've been a part of (music videos, short film) and including music videos of friends' bands

7. my mid south peace and justice center "walk for peace" tshirt

8. a triple cd set with ornette coleman's "the shape of jazz to come" on one side, the Insect Trust's "Hoboken Saturday Night", The Master Musicians of Joujouka: "The Pipes of Pan at Jajouka"

9. a triple cd collection of dubs of my fave tracks by alex chilton, big star, the cramps, the gories, elliott smith, and panther burns

10.a triple cd of the country rockers: "free range chicken", slim harpo's greatest hits, and la monte young's "the well tuned piano"

11. A triple cd set with coletrane's "Giant Steps" album, Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" album phineas newborn: "A World of Piano!" and "Inspiration" album by Sam Rivers

12. a tape with jessie mae hemphill: "feelin' good" on one side and charlie feathers' "honky tonk man" on the other

This would barely touch on my interests. :-( I had to double up several things to even get close but there are a lot of other styles of music and other things besides music that I love, including films, some old broadway stuff, and other types of art including photography, kayaking and nature....photos of nature too. That box with a dozen things wouldn't be enough.

Go ahead and friend her. Your journal, while sparse, is certainly not boring.

I compromised on my 4 CDs... i certainly could've gone on and on about it.

i know...the things i listed are all things that really equally interesting to me as far as cd's so i couldn't decide which one to narrow it down to. I ended up not putting in enough non-music things as a result..

I'll go hunt for 2wanda's journal now.
