soccer report fourfer
Dec. 21st, 2004 02:28 pmI've been remiss in my soccer reporting duties. Let's get to it.
On Friday the 10th, i played not one but two games; John from Fubar called and asked me if i could sub, so i checked the schedule and their game immediately followed my Blasters game, so i said sure. Two games in a row was a bit of work but fun nonetheless, except for the brutal cramp... but i'm getting ahead of myself.
First, Blasters handily defeated Baunfire 8-1. While we started the game a woman up, their missing players showed up soon and we played at full strength. Our team played a very good game. After that, Fubar defeated Hoyas 8-6, in a tight game where Fubar's defense left me hung out to dry a bit too often for my taste. During the game, i started feeling a cramp in my right calf. I shook it out and stretched it during lulls in the game. Later, i felt it cramp again, but it went away. Then, with about a minute left in the game, i jumped high to catch a ball and i felt the calf collapsing into itself, threatening to go beyond its Schwarzschild radius. I rolled around on the ground, yelled at my guys that i wasn't getting up, and i thought to myself that there were still two minutes left in the game (i had no idea), and what the hell was i going to do? Oh crap, oh crap, BZZZZZZZZ, the game ended and i was very relieved, then i started asking for help to stretch the damn thing out, and i berated the guy who was stretching it, "PUSH! PUSH HARDER, DAMMIT!" The next day, the damn thing felt like a horse had kicked me.
Fortunately, the pain was mostly gone by Monday, when Blasters lost to Rage, 8-6, in a game where we lost our composure in the second half. We could have won... bleh. I committed a comical but serious foul when one guy tried to run around me and i held up his leg so he couldn't score; the ref showed me a yellow card (4 minute penalty) for my sin. We only allowed one goal during that time, but that was still only minor. Rage were a bunch of whiny babies, begging the refs for calls since the beginning of the game. Let the damn ref make the calls! Sure, it's our nemesis ref, the guy who lets games get rough and teams get cranky, but he's still the ref. (For those keeping track, yes, that's three games in three days.)
Last night, Blasters tied Gang Green 5-5, in an intense and well-played game by both sides. We played well on both ends of the field, and i had a highlight-reel quality save when i guessed on a far post shot and timed it perfectly. Best of all,
2wanda came to see me! Ties are good, wins are great, but Kim's the best.
Next game is in 3 weeks. I'm gonna be rusty, i just know it.
