My wife had the good fortune of letting Patty cut in line to the restrooms ahead of her. She looked a bit haggard and thin, but that was plainly lessened as she started singing, and her voice sounded as good and strong as ever. Patty was backed by Ben Wittman on drums and Marc Shulman on guitar (who are great), as well as Merrie Amsterberg on vocals, mandolin, and "bass" (she played an electric guitar as a bass). Kuumbwa had some mighty fine turkey chili as well as Seabright ales, a local (Santa Cruz) brew.
Set list:
- Drop Of Water
- Banish Misfortune/Open Hand
- Tango
- When (the top of one of Ben's sticks flies off)
- The Book I'm Not Reading (Patty mentions she's a mother now and is spending time reading children's books, such as "Where Is Maisy?")
- All That Innocence (she introduced Merrie at this point)
- Children
- Wolf At The Door
- 24/7/365
- Johnny Was A Pyro
- You And Me (she called this her only unqualified love song, but i think "Only One" also qualifies [har har] as an unqualified love song, and it is my favorite love song ever)
- Inside Your Painting
- I Told Him That My Dog Wouldn't Run
- I'm Fine
- Me And That Train
- St. Augustine
- Italian Shoes
- Beg To Differ
- Good Thing
- Different World
- Louder
- Home
She took requests just before intermission; i yelled for "Only One" but it got buried in laughter at some audient's comment. It didn't feel as long as it actually was, and yet, thanks to its early starting time (19:30), Kim and i got home at a decent hour. Thanks, Patty.
