Hmm. Supposedly, Berke Breathed will have a new strip featuring Opus out soon. I wonder how reliable this report is, and if so, how much the new strip will suck. Breathed must've run out of money for powerboating...

My personal doctrine is "ignore anything that starts with 'http://www.aintitcoolnews.com/'", but if you're not comfortable with such an extreme doctrine, you can append "that causes heart palpitations."

Setting that doctrine aside, though... Yeah. If Breathed is seriously considering this, I'm 100% certain he could make more money accepting donations to NOT do this than he'd actually make by going through with it. Like you said, it's not "will it suck?" but rather "how badly?" <rant>The fundamental problem has nothing to do with Breathed - the problem is that everyone who enjoyed Bloom County has at this point moved on and relegated the strip to the file folder of "culture that will never again change" along with, say, the symphonies of Beethoven. Even if the strip is masterfully executed, the discord it causes amongst its potential fanbase will destroy it.</rant>

I think your personal doctrine is not unreasonable, especially in light of just how fugly the site design is.

"Outland" was already risky enough as far as alienating the fan base went. It was just too self-indulgent. This... ay. Besides, i thought Breathed was now a fully owned subsidiary of Hallmark.

I kind of remember liking Outland when it was weird and self-indulgent. Then it just became Bloom County II and got boring.

I do believe you are in the right.

Good grief, it would be nice to have a new Breathed strip, Opus or no Opus.

Also, Aterciopelados rules. But I haven't seen my CD since we moved. Best finish unpacking one of these eons.

Here's info from a slightly more reliable source (http://www.berkebreathed.com/opus_returns.html).
