Dave Grohl (Nirvana & Foo Fighters) got Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) and John Paul fuckin' Jones (do i need to say it?) together in a new band, Them Crooked Vultures. They're touring now (sadly, only east of the Mississippi and Europe).

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] syringavulgaris for the heads-up.

I love that Dave Grohl went to TJ (http://www.tjhsst.edu/) (and this is a serious accomplishment, kids from TJ go to where ever they want when they graduate). He may not have finished, but he got in. The man's fucking brilliant.

Meh

Seeger or Seger? But, yeah, his Foo work keeps getting safer and safer with every album. And yet he's still a fantastic drummer.

I would be entertained if Grohl and Homme were to switch off between guitar and drums in between sets.

Here's a story I find interesting:

When Dave Grohl was growing up around here, he used to hang out at a local bar two doors down from the pizza place my now-girlfriend was then managing. One of her old friends was a booking agent for local bars at the time, and so knew who Dave Grohl was, and insists that Grohl used to hit on her in that bar. Sue of course remembers none of this, and only says "he must not have been that cool back then".

The only logical conclusion that I can draw from this story is that... ...I'm obviously much cooler than Dave Grohl.

John Paul fuckin' Jones (do i need to say it?)

Apparently, yes. I was thinking "wasn't he in Paul Revere and the Raiders?"

At least I got the right era.

Yeah, at the Roseland show JPJ looked like he was having a great old time, and when Homme introduced him the crowd went nuts. Grohl looked like he was having fun at first, he and JPJ were laughing and grinning at each other, but then a berzerker battle fury took him over and he hammered those fucking drums like he wanted each and every one of them to die. Possibly the most powerful and intense live show I have ever seen, the only one I can think of to rival it was Clutch.

[bow] But of course. :) Actually it was only by the purest chance that I got so lucky. Someone on the Hawkwind list just happened to mention it in an offhanded way because they had toured England in August and a friend of his caught the show. I hadn't even *heard* about this project. I looked them up and clicked the "current tour" link on their website just to see if thy were ever planning on coming to NYC, and it turned out that NYC was the final date of the tour, the following week. 10 minutes later I was printing tickets. Holy fucking hell what a show. If they come anywhere near you, you MUST see them.
