Actually, James Nicoll wrote that. He also coined the term "Brain Eater", to describe the mysterious animal that sucks away the talant and sanity of elder science fiction writers.

I first ran into "brain eater" to describe the behavioral change in ostensibly sane people who became paranoid xenophobes after 9/11.

Admittedly, usenet had some really nice elements that say, livejournal doesn't have, but it's only a matter of time before usenet goes completely under.
