A Yes on 8 sign has appeared on our neighbors' lawn. My first reaction was to try to get a hold of a No on 8 sign and put it on our lawn. Note that we like our neighbors and that, despite being really Jesusy, they're not pushy in the least about it beyond offering to pray for us in our endeavors (like when i mentioned i was going for a job interview) and wishing that God bless us, which fifteen years ago would have had me seething, but now i don't mind at all because i'm not that much of an asshole anymore.
[Poll #1273930]The way things are going, it looks like Ecuador will have same-sex marriage before the US will. Who saw that coming?
You insensitive asshole!
Date: 2008-10-08 02:41 pm (UTC)2) Such signs, especially in neighborhoods, are about signifying allegiance and a form of vanity: "*I* support xyz! Look at me supporting xyz!! Me me me!"
3) You should put-up a sign that says "Maybe on 8". Or even "Prop 8... Meh..."
And as for having Jesus Crispy neighbors, I have them too. I get along fine with them. I never get offended when someone says God Bless to me because as an atheist, it's like someone saying "May santa bring you lots of presents!": It's a friendly sentiment based on mythos. Atheists who get pissed off about this sort of thing and offended by displays of religion fail to recognize that religious belief is about choice, like any freedom... And you have to deal with choices opposite of yours.
(And yes, I *do* get pissed about people who preach to me. The vast majority of Christians seem to have learned that it's pretty rude and offensive to just preach at people randomly).
