Last week was a bye for all teams. Yesterday's result was a 12-4 thrashing delivered by OCR. It also included my first glasses-related incident (BOOT TO THE HEAD); luckily, it only resulted in minor frame bending. My right pinky's a bit tweaked from stopping a shot, and my muscles all hurt near the tendons. Worst of all, my back started spasming about an hour and a half ago and won't quit.

I'm considering sending the team captain an evaluation of our talent... not that it MATTERS or nothin', but i don't like it when i see him lagging behind on defense when i'd rather have him up creating offense, while some of our, er, less talented team members wander up hoping to get lucky and take a shot on goal. In the course of our rout, i also started wandering up a bit, on the off chance i could take some long-distance potshots. I wasn't very confident, but i didn't give up any certain goals due to my being out of position, so i don't consider the experiment a failure. In general, though, yesterday just wasn't our day. Everybody's touch seemed to be off (not unlike China's in their quarterfinal versus Canada yesterday). Ah, well, there's always next week. Now, where are my pills...

Welcome to the kicked-in-the-head club. I hope yer BRAN3S weren't too scrambled.

Back spasms, and other muscle pulls/strains seem to be a standard feature of playing in goal. A lot of the problems stem from periods of inactivity followed by sudden, explosive movements: the muscles get cold while you're waiting for the game to come back to your end of the pitch. These days, I try to do stretching exercises during the quiet periods, and that seems to alleviate some of the problems.

Well, this happened about a full 24 hours after the game, getting out of my car. So it's pretty weird.

This morning it hurts even more than before, but the tightness and spasming seems to have subsided. I guess it's a fair trade.
