It's "habanero". NOT FUCKING "habañero". There is NO eñe in "La Habana", AKA "Havana". Habanero == from Havana.

At least "empañada" is a real word (from empañar, to make unclean, or in common usage, to steam up glass)...

Thanks. I've been getting that wrong, and had heard it both ways, and wasn't sure.

I suspect the reason why people pronounce it "habañero" is because then it sounds more like "jalapeño."
