• My preferred content purveyor (RSS aggregator, LiveJournal friends page, etc.) should have the ability to hide updates that are tagged with something i consider undesirable (for example, i might want my LJ friends page to never show an entry tagged with "goatse" or "furries").  Although this would depend on proper tagging, one could conceivably extend it to the content of the entry (much like running a killfile on headers versus an article body in one's favorite newsreader).  And while i'm wishing for a killfile, i want LJ to provide one so we never again have to see obnoxious "FIRST!" or "BOOBIES!" comments.  It's time for the Web to borrow heavily from Usenet's good ideas.

• I need hierarchical tags.  For example, i want to group my "gig review" tags under an all-encompassing "music" tag that may also include "album review".  The "trip" tag can include "wine country", which would include "paso robles", "santa cruz mountains", "sonoma" and "napa".  "original work" can then include "onesies" as well as "ash of friendship", "zenemba", and "axe beak & claw".  You get the picture.  Oh, yeah, i had a point here: it's just like i'm writing in the ronebofh.* hierarchy. ronebofh.misc, ronebofh.trip.wine-country.paso-robles, ronebofh.fuckheads.microsoft.die.die.die.  OK, i think i'm done.

You read my mind. So few people are able to read my mind. They're just not open to the experience.

I need hierarchical tags.

This might fall under borrowing from libraries' good ideas. I can add that to the wishlist for future developments of the website I'll be launching RSN: Build Your Own Taxonomy. Or something.

I would also block "ICON LOVE!" and anything related to paganism or the Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Sometimes I wish I cared about Buffy et al, but I have never been able to muster any enthusiasm for it/them.

I saw it a few times, it was an OK show but good lord the insane fangirls devoted to it and all of its spinoffs can be annoying (mostly due to their amazing thread-derailing powers).

Yeah, I make the mistake of reading the [livejournal.com profile] customers_suck community, which has a lot of funny stories in it but by nature it tends to attract the birth cohort that tends to be temporarily stuck in crappy retail jobs.

I see. But I still don't understand what "first" means. Are they simply posting that because they are the first to make a comment on a popular blog?

If trolls gave a shit about anything then "first" would make someone a high status troll.

Marvelous, but why hasn't LiveJournal incorporated this into their standard styles? Those articles are 3½ years old! Oh, right, i'm sure i'll get the standard "there's only so much time in the day" whinge i got from that LJ employee...
