Foxtrot explains Web 2.0.

For the 2% of people without the latest and greatest version of Flash, i give you the cartoon in glorious PNG format:
j: like my web page design? p: it's blank. j: well, duh. this is the era of web 2.0. users get to generate their own content. let's say you want to know what the latest news is. all you have to do is type it out in this box that says 'news' and then you can read it. is it still raining out? i'll draw some raindrops where it says 'weather.' p: so when is web 2.1 due out?

Well, that's more or less why they don't want people hotlinking the images. As for Web site operators not wanting users to have easy access to the semantics of the content, that's nothing new; they've been trying to obfuscate stuff with Javascript and Flash for years now.
