Tron made sense to me, inasmuch as people could get geeky about Tron. I didn't realize that anyone liked the Thing.

What gets me the most is that he made a costume of some guy who is made out of rocks out of *real* rocks. He didn't really specify what kind of rocks, but it looked like crumbled concrete which was spray painted orange. You could just use Styrofoam or plastic and save some weight. I just think if you're going that far using rocks, why not go look for some actual naturally orange-colored real rocks? That would have been hardcore.
