clean-shaven rone

My chin is cold.

There was definitely a "whoa who the hell is that" moment in the mirror once i got out of the shower, even though i trimmed everything down as closely as possible with scissors in front of a mirror.  My face sure isn't as thin as it used to be.  I take crappy photographs.  And my posed smiles are bone-chillingly fake-looking.

As ever, i'm not a trendsetter but a follower, as The Boy shaved his facial hair about a couple of weeks ago.

Now nobody will know i'm [livejournal.com profile] sambushell's evil twin.

If your face were as thin as you are apparently are used to, you would absolutely fit my mental picture of Colonel Kassad in Dan Simmons' Hyperion. Worth a read if you haven't yet--the whole series, not just the first book.

I've read {,Fall of} Hyperion. Darn good. I heard the next two books weren't as good.

Endymion gets kind of later-book-Dune-ish as I recall, yeah. I'm rereading the series now; the memories are fuzzy (read most of it drunk the first time around). I'll report if you'd like.

Run away! It's got some good stuff in it, but signal to noise is below threshold. I might read the fourth book since I can't unreread this one.

My new theory (backed up by Mona Lisa Overdrive) is that book series' are like successive generations of oligarchic business ownership. The first builds, the second maintains and grows to explosive success, the third squanders it all on hookers and booze. Maybe publishers can be blamed, i.e. "OMG! The second book rocked! You can't lose with a third!" And so the third book gets written while the author is snorting coke off of someone's tits.

Oh, the Ender's Game series is the same way. Wham.

I liked the Endymion books just fine. It was Olympos that misliked me.
