- CJ Cherryh's The Faded Sun: picked this up at my brother's behest, in addition to many raves. 8 chapters into "Kesrith", i abandoned it out of boredom.

- Deftones' Around The Fur: picked this up because i dig "Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away)". The rest of the disc consists of Chino either groaning or screeching over guitar that's as lively as a cowpie. Conclusion: they shot their wad on their single.

Kesrith does take a while to get moving, but like a lot of Cherryh's work, the joy is more in the exploration of a culture and what it means to be between two cultures than in any real zip-bang action. Her work's not for everyone.
