Christ, all of a sudden there's this rush of music that i want to get.  And i have a backpile on my wishlist of stuff i must have.  Something's gotta give...

She Wants Revenge has a very familiar sound, and if i may dip into the cliché bag, it's because they wear their influences on their sleeve.  Some would call them derivative, but i think that they do a fine job in making music which provenance is recognizable but also clearly displays their own voice.  You can listen to four of their songs and watch a video on this Flash-driven page, there's two more videos on their Betrayal page, and there's two more songs at their MySpace page.  Their show at the Great American Music Hall next week is already sold out, unfortunately.

From the new, to the old... and i do mean old, because damn, David Gilmour has aged a lot, judging by the video clip on Amazon's page for his new album, which will be out next week.  It sounds, well, like you'd expect a David Gilmour album to sound.  I can pick out that guitar sound out of a lineup.  But there's a lot of passion in what i've heard so far, and that's a good thing.  He, too, has been keeping a Weblog, which you may find at [livejournal.com profile] davidgilmour.

also, as far as godfather of emo goes, he did START that whole thing with 'The Wall.' And, yes, he can do what he wants with 'The Wall' and even pimp it out for dollars, no matter what he does, including having it turn tricks on 53rd and 3rd, it will be more respectable than the crap franchise that David turned Pink Floyd into.

No, I have no respect at all for Gilmour. And yes, I'm a fan of Roger's. I love Floyd, all periods involving Roger. I do not consider anything after 'The Final Cut' to be Floyd, but instead, David flying around in the hollowed out Pig carcass, dropping the equivalent of giant turds on the world. "Look, everyone, this giant turd is 'learning to fly! hahahahaha!'

However, he's not doing it as Pink Floyd now so I _should_ stop being a little emo bitch over here and go look. I won't be happy. Cuz then I coudln't be a little emo bitch about it all.

But if I don't go look I'll just sound like a WHINY little emo bitch, and ... eeew that's worse than the Division Bell. Eeeew.

Eh, if you don't like Gilmour's work, then i don't see how his latest is gonna change your mind. But you know what? Gilmour brought Wright back after Waters crushed his soul and ejected him from the band like he was a fill-in. And everything Waters did from "The Wall" on was turn Pink Floyd into the Roger Waters Experience, and that was at least as damaging to the Pink Floyd legacy as the crummy stuff on "MLoR".

Seriously, i can see hating MLoR, but hating DB is nutty.

I think it was more the number of people during that period who 'found' Pink Floyd, thru MTV, and thought they were a new band, and when you'd show them old Floyd, like Wish You Were Here, or Saucerfull of Secrets, they'd tell you it wasn't because the only Floyd was the Division Bell.

So, combined with my intertwining with the Wall that I had for 2 years or so, well, it pretty much means I can't do Gilmour or Gilmour influenced stuff.

And yeah I'm prolly lesser well off as a result. So gimme a few decades and we'll see (:

Hell, you can say the same of, say, "Piper" versus "Animals". Even though the name is the same, it's not really the same band. Even the post-Syd, pre-Meddle stuff is just plain different from their "classic" period. Atom Heart Mother puts me to sleep, for example.

I consider the start of the Classic period to be Ummagumma, which I had on Vinyl... but then the Gilmour part on that just kinda shows where his limitations are. Prolly why I like it (: Well, that and several species of small furry animals living in a cave and grooving with a pict. And Sysyphus, which I misspelled again.

And certainly Meddle is part of what I'd consider the classic period.

Atom Heart Mother isn't the best, of the early stuff, no. Good cover tho.

I think that has more to do with Mescaline than anything. As, well, does anything dealing with Syd, aside from of course Wish You Were Here.

Actually, it's spelled "Sysyphus" on Ummagumma, so it's their error, not yours.
