How did Leo Kottke record an album before i was born that sounds like it could have been recorded yesterday?  The whole thing is just stunningly good.  "Watermelon" makes me want to smile and cry at the same time.

Yeah. I first heard it about twenty five years ago, and it's still great. If you'd been paying attention, you'd probably have noticed me mentioning it here or there. Unfortunately most of the rest of his work is twaddle; he can't play in ensemble for beans, so track down his solo work.

When you want to get into something more interesting and challenging, I can introduce you to John Fahey's stuff.

I saw him play at the Middle East in Cambridge once. He was pretty good, but I'm not terribly familiar with his work.

Yeah, i've seen many a mention of him, but it wasn't until a coworker lent me the disc that i understood just how good it is.

Kottke swings through our town once a year. I've seen him twice, and both his performances were a joy to behold. One thing you're not getting on the albums is his very laid-back and dry sense of humor. He actually sang on one tune, and he warned us beforehand that his vocals were, "not unlike the flatus of geese."

"Watermelon" is one of my favorites off that record (with "The Fisherman" and "Busted Bicycle"). I like "Ojo" a lot, but on this album it's played just a little too fast -- much better on Regards From Chuck Pink. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000000IM/103-4609906-4256615?v=glance)
