Lois McMaster Bujold, "Paladin of Souls":  Wonderful book.  Even better than its sort-of prequel "Curse of Chalion".  Ista's interaction with the gods feels very real.  Some turns were predictable, but delivered so well that i never minded.  Short synopsis: after being released of the aforementioned curse, Ista finds herself adrift and embarks on a pilgrimage of sorts.  Stuff happens.  The ending is perfect.

Neil Gaiman, "Anansi Boys":  Wonderful book (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] palecur and [livejournal.com profile] amywithani).  Not epic like its sort-of prequel "American Gods", but thoroughly enjoyable.  Fat Charlie has a bit of "Neverwhere"'s Richard Mayhew in him (which might well have a bit of Neil Gaiman in him), but that doesn't make him feel familiar.  Short synopsis: Fat Charlie's father dies and later he meets his long-lost brother.  Things go a bit crazy, Fat Charlie tries to fix it, and things get crazier.  Another marvelous ending.  Mr. Nancy should be played, naturally, by Morgan Freeman; Spider should be played by Taye Diggs; Fat Charlie should be played by this one actor whose face i can easily picture, a black man with light skin, a pointed nose, and a receding hairline.  He does comedies usually.  Maybe i'll figure out who it is.

Interesting... I enjoyed PoS, but I liked CoC more. Have you read "The Hallowed Hunt" yet?

I'm with you--I liked Chalion better than Paladin. I still liked Paladin, though.

Hallowed Hunt? I'll have to look for it. Maybe at Powell's!! :)

Are you thinking of Bernie Mac?

[I have not yet read Anansi Boys]

No. No, man. Shit no. I know Bernie Mac! He ain't even that light-colored. This guy's latte-colored. And he's not half as recognizable as Bernie Mac.

Lenny Henry did the audio book. It is important that you hear this.

I've probably mentioned this before, that I am a big fan of the Vorkosigan books... But I've not read CoC or PoS. Mostly because I read "The Spirit Ring" years ago and it was only mediocre. I suppose I should read those two. I also have been meaning to read "American Gods" for a while. I'm lazy.

Spirit Ring is just some sort of weird outlier. The rest of the books are much more in the same style/vein as the Vorkosigan books. Though none of the characters are as immediately as appealing as Miles. Though really, she's had a lot more time to work on him.

I think I liked Paladin of Souls better than Curse of Chalion or Hallowed Hunt. But whatever, LMB is all good. I've decided to go back and read all the Vorkosigan stuff. Again. For like the eleventyth time.

I wasn't a big fan of American Gods, though I liked a lot of the ideas within it. Maybe I'll give Anansi Boys a try, though.

I'm like that with Brust's Dragaera books. I'm currently going over "Viscount of Adrilankha", because it hasn't quite been eleventy times yet...

Well then. You are making my book list grow. Heh. I once met Lois McMaster Bujold. Nice lady and I like her books about that guy Miles. (:
