Please become acquainted with the term "second-system effect".  Thanks.

Bah, what're the odds that it becomes just like USENET2 and Internet2. Or, playing to the audience here, Bush2?

I never thought of the Bush kids as second-system effect.

THANKS, NOW I'M DEPRESSED. Jerk.

I bet you could talk Jeb into serving as Taoiseach if you promised amnesty for his kids.

I would recommend doing a background check on the kids before doing that...

But.... but... how can it be possible that rolling up every last thing that slashdot and boingboing thought was cool under a single label could possibly not suck?

That's funny, I remember when these pundits were available for standard conference per diem to talk about advances in Push Technology/Blogging/Rich Media/B2B/B2C/C2C/Many to Many/etc. panels.

And now, after ten years, it looks like the only really prescient innovations on the web from 1995 were The Spot and Suck.

It almost makes me wish I'd sold out early. I could see the world and have an agent negotiating my fees, too.

Wasn't Mary Meeker one of the laughingstocks of Wall Street a few years ago for her insane "New Economy" cheerleading during the late-'90s boom?

The whole "X 2.0" naming scheme for things that are not really second systems, but blue-sky conferences about futurology or something like that, bothers me, because people tend to get the impression that they are building second systems.

How about Web+1? (Aww, Web's got new girlfriend!) Web N.0? Web (N+1).0?
