Gov. "Catcher" Mitt Romney wants to wiretap mosques and surveil foreign students in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  Maybe he should hook up with this Michelle Malkin wannabe for milk and cookies.

You and [livejournal.com profile] allbery are probably the two most well-spoken and civil people from Usenet i know, so when i see you two breaking down and getting angry over stuff, it worries me a bit.

Thanks. I'm actually feeling a lot of generalized anger and anxiety these days, as I think most people in this country are. I don't always get it on the page, because I've seen how easy and tempting it is to turn a blog that used to be about a variety of things into nothing but a daily shot of boiling rage for readers who are angry in exactly the same way as you.

I was a little disturbed when my post-Katrina rant got me ten or so immediate new friends; I'm happy to have them reading, but I could see some sort of malign rageboy feedback loop starting, and wondered if they'd be disappointed if I went back to nattering about planets or something. The end stage is that your brain rots away entirely and the blog degenerates into some cesspit like Little Green Footballs (I remember when that guy mostly talked about web design).

Some people can let it out more often and still keep it under control in the long term. You do pretty well at that. It gets harder the more popular a blog is; mine isn't that well-known so I don't have to worry as much about being goaded by flaming comment boards.

Digby (http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/) is one of my most favorite political bloggers because he has superhuman control over precisely calibrated outrage; he can get exactly as angry as events warrant and not one iota more. Some of his commenters aren't as good at this and flop over the line into the Land of Crazy, but somehow Digby never does.

By the way, the pronoun "you" in the above only literally refers to you in the third paragraph.
