Renowned journalist Bob Woodward predicts Dick Cheney will be the Republican Party's presidential nominee in 2008...

"He would be 67 if he ran and was elected."

I keep forgetting he's fairly young. If he ever did get elected his acceptance speech would probably be given by someone else consisting of one word, "Clear!"

That makes me feel better, because Woodward is consistently wrong on, uh, everything. Like that commercial where the guy thinks he gets French benefits at work.

Funny in a 'Ha ha, Woodward's losing it' way, or funny in a 'You know that boot that's been stomping your face for the past five years? It will continue to stomp your face for at least another seven years' way?

I'm with Woodward on this one, actually.

Dick Cheney, if he knows one true thing, knows this: if he does not run for president in 2008, will be out of power.

I just don't see him as the sort of person to ever let that happen voluntarily.

Woodward is a Pentagon mole, and has been for years.

In order to take this seriously, you have to construct an elaborate fantasy world in which George W. Bush actually gives a shit about the United States of America, and in which he and Cheney are not both massive fuckups.

That said, I would have thought that the Republicans would have been smart enough not to nominate Bush, so what do I know?

I'm terrified at the prospect of a Cheney vs. Hillary election.

The former. He's never gonna make it out of the primaries. Maybe not even alive.

They definitely showed a certain cunning by running him and using his marginal charisma to beat out Gore. Then the Democrats failed to learned the lesson and ran Kerry.

Oh, he'll TRY. But he's such a charmless fuckhead that he'll never make it. The GOP would be insane to nominate him. You keep hearing about how Dumbya is the kind of guy you'd love to have a beer with — can you imagine sharing ANYTHING with Cheney? Hell, i wouldn't even want to shake his hand.

Also note what happened the last time the sitting VP with a charisma deficiency ran for president.

You're forgetting something important: an 80% chance that he'll be running against Hillary Clinton, and a 100% chance that he'll be running against the nominee of the LoserDemocratic Party even if it's not Hillary.

I'll go $20 on Cheney, right now, with anyone. I'll probably be ratcheting that up rather a lot by June of 2008.

(As far as him having any difficulting procuring the GOP nomination... possible, I guess, but unlikely: he's had 6 years now to prepare for this eventuality, and I would be shocked if his organization doesn't already have Iowa and New Hampshire pre-wired.)

The GOP may hate Hillary with the fury of 1000 suns, but she's still got Cheney beat by far in the charisma department.

$20 on Cheney winning the GOP nomination or winning it all? Eh, either way, you're on.

Actually, I don't think the democrats would be stupid enough to nominate Hillary. But it's still terrible to contemplate.

HA HA HA HA HA

At this point, Hillary might be their best option. It would be awful in many ways, but at least she has a good chance of winning: she's got charm, she's a good speaker, and she's smart. Her or John Edwards.

As for contemplating terrible choices, i've been looking at `em since Bill left office. And i still regret voting for Bill in `96, because i think that the bullshit he pulled in his second term helped set the stage for Dumbya's bullshit (not WHAT he did, but HOW he did it).

... he won.

and yet, look what happened...

so yeah, cheney's gonna run, and cheney's gonna win. JESUS could reappear and run as president against cheney, and everyone could vote for JESUS, and cheney will still win.

I said that about bush last election, and I was right.

The Democrats were lulled by Commander Cuckoo Bananas's gormless demeanor in 2000 and 2004. They underestimated him and ran out two guys who sucked. A real candidate would've never let Bush get close.

there's no chance in hell the good, tolerant people of america would elect a woman as president, anymore than they'd elect a jew or a black man.

sure, that might change. they actually elected a catholic as president once.

That was exactly my point. Notice the last election they hade a 100% pure white meat ticket.

You mean just like every other election? Even Geraldine Ferraro was white. Well, Joe Lieberman's a Jew, but he's so far right he's practically a Republican.

Kerry might have been all right if someone had clued him in that he was running for President, not Hero Of Vietnam.

Eh, he was a stiff through and through. And he proved to be a sore loser after that, too. Even Gore loosened up after he lost.

if by "they" you mean the republicans, yes. democrats ran kerry -- and the boston globe started circulating the story that he's a secret jew.

I keep forgetting that he's fairly young because HE WAS A MEMBER OF PRESIDENT FORD'S CABINET BEFORE I WAS EVEN BORN.

How the hell does a 34-year-old kid end up being our nation's Chief of Staff? Was it because he was bald even then? Because he was a friend of Rumsfeld?

Obviously I need a tuneup, a coredump or something. You are correct
sir, someone past retirement age is not young.

Didn't know about the early baldness.
Maybe he was just born looking old.

All jokes about collecting my debts from a townhouse in Toronto aside, my biggest regret about the 2004 election is not following my gut and putting down serious money on GWB. If I'm gonna get fucked in the ass for 4 years by these people, I should at least make some money on the process.
