attack of the repo men

This is just over a year old, but it's another look at the poor deranged souls that litter the Internet.  Jef Poskanzer, a long-time hacker and creator of thttpd (which i run to serve my Web sites), was slimed by a couple of very paranoid repo men.  These guys are like very bad Bond villains ("Hmn - I guess you're too smart for me.").

Goobers who think that you're related to someone based on "clicking" a "link" on a "page" always amuse me. I like how someone finally realized that the owner of acme.com is not going to be some rampant newbie. He's obviously been around since Al Gore invented the Internets!

Whoa. That's... um. If it were usenet I'd say it involved one or more not particularly clever trolls; as it is, I don't know what to think, other than that I sincerely hope it's intended as humor.

Any minute now Rod Serling is going to pop out from behind a bush and explain what's going on.

It's too bad that Jef Poskanzer had to deal with those morons, but it's not clear to me why he didn't explain early on in the discussion that the site is running his web server software just because it's freely available, all sorts of idiots use it, etc etc.

I really liked the bit about preferences for telephone versus e-mail, and "in this instance I get to make the decision since it is you who wants to talk to
me." Giggle.
