Don't forget that news of Koran desecration at Gitmo first showed up back in March `04.

Actually on the Ed Shultz show the other day they cited reports of Koran desecration at Gitmo that were reported in the UK press in 2002.

It's also kind of peculiar for the administration to enter high dudgeon about Newsweek damaging the United States' image when they already admit that the interrogators at Gitmo have been torturing people. As others have said, if you're willling to throw naked people in piles, threaten them with electric shocks to the genitals and occasionally beat them to death, it's hard to imagine having scruples about their reading material.

...read "Abu Ghraib" in the above; the administration hasn't admitted any of this stuff at Guantanamo, though the reports that the Abu Ghraib incidents were the result of "Gitmoization" of the prison are strongly suggestive.
