I've meant to put up these links for you for a long time now:

Support your nearby farmers' market! I have naught else to say, mostly because my brain has been taken over by The Sith Lords.

YAY! Also, www.seasonalchef.com is good, as is www.localharvest.org.

We've got weekly neighborhood farmers markets here during summer/fall, but not right now -- BUT we are getting a year-round farmer's market/combo with some other stuff this summer just a BLOCK FROM MY OFFICE and i'm so psyched! Whee, no more CHEETOS for breakfast!

Dumbest question in all the land:

What's the difference between a farmer's market and a neighborhood produce stand? Is one presumably better than the other?

Advise me, wise ones!

A neighborhood produce stand is in the country

...and a farmer's market is twenty miles or more away from where the stuff was grown.

We have farmers markets in Philadelphia in various places at various times of the year. Some people drive to the farms and buy things.

My guess is that your neighborhood produce stand, if selling produce grown within a 1/2 mile of the stand, is going to roll up and pack the farmer's markets (who supplement what's available locally with whatever in some markets).

I find that apples taste best when they're locally grown and they're even cheaper when I buy by the peck at the roadside stand.

Well, i'd think that a farmer's market has a lot more variety. We can get all sorts of fruit and veggies at ours, plus honey, kettle corn, fish, freshly pressed apple juice, sno-cones, naan, tamales...

Thanks for posting this! It will come in handy.

I found all but one of my local markets listed here. Now I'm doubly curious about that one.
