Any use of "fsck" in lieu of "fuck".  It's over.  It was over years ago.  Cut it out.  Unless you're running a filesystem check, no more "fscking".

Also, "pwned".  I can't begin to describe how braindead this is.  Not even ironic use can save it.  Stop it.  Don't make me come over there.

You mean because of this whim of yours I should now rename my untrustworthy workstation, poor little fsck.waldner.priv.at?

No fscking way.

There'd be no need to change it if besides fsck you also had mknod.waldner, newfs.waldner, swapon.waldner, etc.

The new firewall's called mkfs.vfat, just to add insult to it's ridiculous slowness. Does that count?

Then again, so are you. Don't cross me, buddy.

Can we get rid of any and all "cute" misspellings designed to show contempt for the item misspelled? Micro$oft, Slowlaris, Macintrash, and so on?

I'm going to hang onto "N$I" and "Veri$ign" for a little while longer, but they'll run their course soon.

I propose "STUNG!" as a replacement for "pwned".

What especially irritates me about "pwned" (beyond the fact that I believe it should be pronounced "pooned") is that, even correctly spelled, it's dumb. The only good thing that's come out of it, in my mind, is this. Also, I'm with [livejournal.com profile] bitpuddle on the topic of w00t.

The last time I saw a "how do you say pwned" discussion, I was the lone vote for "pooned." I don't recall how the breakdown ran, but there were calls for "poned," "pawned," "owned," and "I don't say it, when I'm saying it I'm saying owned, I only use 'pwned' for typing; it's unpronounceable."

Hmm. The few times I've heard it spoken, it was "pee-owned".

Does the term maybe go back to Snow Crash?

(For those who don't remember, YT on her skateboard 'pooned tows from various powered vehicles, with the sense of the word evidently coming from "harpooned". Hiro was quite annoyed when he got pooned.)

The term "fsck" still has a lot of mileage, though. The F-Word Itself denotes a biological act which is generally pleasurable and sometimes even procreative. "Fsck" denotes something dry, mechanical, and sometimes annoyingly necessary just to get back to the level of functionality you had before things went pear-shaped. When I'm annoyed I'd rather invoke the latter and leave anything I actually enjoy doing out of it.
