Hmm. I feel that children of Scientologists deserve a certain kind of sympathy. I don't like to imagine what it would be like not to have any memory from before a cult had its tendrils into my life. How well could you escape, especially if you had a public life?
"Beck was most likely born at home because Scientologists prefer to give birth at home and shun neo-natal screening and conventional medicine. Home births also accommodate the Scientology's "silent birth" rules about not talking to a newborn baby for a period of one week. While Scientology teaches that this reduces the trauma associated with a baby's birth, this is actually another method to destroy family bonds."
holy crap, that's cruel and horrible! what are they trying to do, breed an army of sociopaths?
actually, i guess that isn't too hard to believe. fucking hell.

Extremely unfortunate name.
I feel kind of sorry for anyone who is involved in any religion too heavily. By that, I mean someone who can't make even the slightest decision without a lot of influence from their religion. Scientology is so control freaky that I feel bad for its members and often wonder how many members are there because they weren't able to resist some heavy manipulation.
John Safran (http://www.musicjamboree.com/) outed him a few years ago in a nice bit of work that included visiting his local scientologists while impersonating Beck, having Beck's "personality test" done, and generally acting like the idiot he is.
It was quite amusing.
(He's also gone door-to-door as Prince, and sung Black Sabbath songs backwards while dressed as Ozzie Osbourne. I have MPEG-4 of most of it.)
