I agree. I remember being optimistic around 10:00 or 11:00pm four years ago. Stupid stupid stupid me.

I'm trying to stop watching the CNN and BBC websites obsessively.

Maybe I should go out and drink now.

Did that. Wear your "I VOTED" sticker and see if the bar will cut the price. Worked for us. Urp.

Optimism what? I'm so sick to my stomach I can't even contemplate getting solidly drunk before CNN declares a winner.

One of the local bars is giving the first drink free if you bring your voting stub.

Optimism? Someone has optimism? Just thinking about Ohio and Florida has given me an ulcer big enough that I could hide a chicken in it.

(must... not... watch. must... play... GTA...)

Optimism shmoptimism. I'm so sick with worry I just made my cat throw up all over my bed.

Not sure how that works, actually.

The one thing that is good about this election, no matter what the result, is the huge turnout, which means that it mattered to people. The BBC over here have been very good about being as bipartisan as possible, and have interviewed those who were planning to vote for kerry and those who were planning to vote for bush. I'm following it with some interest, but I'm not going to cast an opinion either way.

I wouldn't call it a huge increase; there was about a 10% increase in votes cast for president this time around, but that's not even two-thirds of people of voting age in this country.
