The unstoppable expansion of Starbucks has been a problem for longer than you think.

Wasn't the proliferation of coffee houses responsible for the Industrial Revolution, or something?

In fact, it was Lloyd's of London, as told by [livejournal.com profile] bivaughn.

Ray Feist makes an allusion to this in one of his books, too.

OK, so I'm all, like, taking these free CPCU insurance courses at work, because I get to put letters after my name. My edukashun is pastede on yay.

Every single course has a long mention of Lloyd's, even when Lloyd's has nothing to do with the class, and you can tell the authors of these texts are just itching to sing the high praises of Lloyd's. Apparently the history of Lloyd's involves piracy, Kings, murder, plots, explosions, zombies, pirates, zombie pirates, money, fiendish plans, swashbuckling, and Elton John. Fabulous.
