I'm not surprised if he is. His halting way of delivering prepared speeches is more in line with somebody pausing between receiving chunks of information rather than a reader's habit of pausing between clauses or at the end of text lines.

When he's using it for a prepared speech, it's just sad, but not much more than that. At a debate, it's cheating.

I approve of Tom Tomorrow's (http://www.thismodernworld.com/weblog/mtarchives/week_2004_10_03.html#001793) advice that the Dems jam the signal.

Animatronic? Now I'm envisioning a new Disney attraction, "Not-so Great Moments With Mr. Bush". If they still had the old alphanumeric ticket system, I'd rate this as an "A" ticket ride...roughly equivalent to riding the little fire truck up and down Main Street USA.

I'm sure you want to eliminate stress in your life, and I'm happy to report that you'll take a great step toward that goal when you read a story like this, and can dismiss it as conspiracy wackjobbery, especially since they said Kerry had a cheat sheet.

Somehow people want to believe that their candidates are brainless puppets, and can't fathom that they might be good enough to debate without direct intervention during the debate.

Although if that were the case it seems to me the campaign would have said as much by now.

Actually yeah. It was co-written with some other guy (hence the pen name), which is probably where the identifiable ending came from.

I believe it was Robin Williams who, as part of a stand-up routine, said that Reagan had been Walt Disney's dying wish ("Make a president!"). Apparently he cited the wrong commander in chief.

Being serious, if the guy is using such a device, that's both contemptible and frightening. The idea that the most important man in the world isn't smart enough to memorise a soundbite or answer any question without being prompted does not fill me with confidence.

Also, it reminds me of the Al Qaeda announcement a while ago which included a wish for Bush to win the election. The reason for that wish boiled down to, "Because he's a bloody idiot, whereas Kerry might be smart enough to cause us problems."
