For St. Jon Stewart.  Not that i'm saying he was martyred on O'Reilly — that would be ridiculous.  I'm just skipping the whole Catholic process and going straight to the candle and prayers. Thanks to that stoned slacker [livejournal.com profile] bivaughn.

I've got this in AVI format if you want to watch it. Actually, Jon Stewart was GREAT. I'm pretty sure that the motivation for doing this was pretty sound, too: the Daily Show people invited O'Reilly onto their show, and O'Reilly shot back "only if I get to grill your guy first!" So now Jon came off looking pretty good on O'Reilly and O'Reilly has to be on the Daily show where I'm pretty sure Jon will be able to rip him a new one so elegantly he won't even realize what's happening.

Jon is so good at what he does - he did the same thing with Ann Coulter. He's calm and laidback, and lets the rightwing nuts hang themselves with their own rope.

I love this:
STEWART: I don't know if it's left leaning. I mean, would you suggest that -- you know that blue collar TV show that does all the -- like Foxworthy and all that? You'd consider that a red state show -- you know, Foxworthy and -- (UNINTELLIGIBLE)...

"Foxworthy and Unintelligible". Brilliant.

Not brilliant, redundant.

Well, handwave.

Also I am dying at the fact that Bill straightfacedly (is that a word?) responded that yes, France deserves a boycott. Dear god the man is insanely stupid.

I just read the transcript you linked, and it appears to me that Jon *killed*. He's a LOT smarter and better informed than O'Lie-ly, and so O'Lie-ly doesn't even see how stupid he's being.

I believe a mural of him looking soulfully skyward is in order.

I think I like the alliteration of "STONED SLACKERS FOR STEWART" better. Maybe with a pic of Jon looking soulfully skyward so that nobody thinks you're a Martha Stewart fan.... ;)

The only time I've ever seen stoned slackers watching television they were in fact watching The O'Reilly Factor. I am not making this up.

Stoners for Stewart!

Jon Stewart handled himself beautifully well. He is polite, distanced himself from the tar patches OReilly threw in front of him, and got in his digs at the same time (subtle ones, yes, but still).

I just read the transcript and I think Jon was great. You don't get the whole feel of the episode -- like when Koppel dismissed Stewart so nastily, the transcripts of what Koppel said didn't really convey that. I wonder how much of that was lost in translation; O'Reilly's shtick is to be a right nasty bastard.

O'Reilly is certainly full of himself, isn't he? One of the three most powerful people behind El Presidente, huh? But at least he hates the French.
