Germany defeated Sweden 2-1 on an OT golden goal, but Sweden should've lost by a couple more goals. Everyone seems to be talking up the German attack, which is certainly no slouch, but everyone is also ignoring the weak Swedish defense, which would, when not standing like statues while the Germans moved into open space, would be out of position. Germany's first goal came because Marin Meinert received a pass and found herself with a straight lane to the goal and the nearest Swedish defender was at least 5 yards away. I thought the Swedish coach should've shored up their defense, but instead swapped out some midfielders. Their winning goal was a beauty of a header, impossible to defend or to stop -- a championship-quality goal in every way.
