In my efforts to find a new job, i've signed up for an AWS Bootcamp class, because THE CLOUD is one of the New Hotnesses that i lack.

So far, i am dismayed by the difficulty some of the people in this Intermediate class are having with finding stuff on a page, following instructions, and figuring stuff out.

Dude, seriously? You have VMWare experience and know how to access/configure an application through a web-based portal, right?

I hereby declare you Cloud-Certified, Cloud-Capable, and Cloud-Aware.

The hot sexy-ness for Cloud is all in the marketing. You can steal that marketing for your resume. In fact, under CA employment law I believe you are morally compelled to steal from marketing people at every opportunity; but it's been a few years so don't quote me.

I do not, in fact, have VMWare experience. One of the reasons i got torpedoed by a recent job opp.

The hot sexy-ness for Cloud is not in the marketing, but in the execution. That's one thing i learned at Netflix (how to do it right), and later at eBay (how to do it in a "not even wrong" way).

I always feel that way in class. It's so frustrating.

How much "experience" is enough with VMware lately? I just don't know the cut-off lines.

As noted above, i don't have any, so i'm not qualified to say how much experience is enough.

http://openstack.redhat.com/Main_Page is a super-easy install. Read this note before hand; you need to install puppet and the quick start doesn't warn you. But otherwise it was painless and you get a full-featured private cloud to futz around with.

Yeah, that's on the list, too. In fact, one of the guys at work has had that on the project stack since December in order to put Dev/QA on it, except that it fell behind in priority. Then someone else set up OpenVZ instead, which isn't bad but isn't really progressive, either. Thanks for the caveat link.
