I tried using Twitter and IRC in Adium but it was just too obnoxious.

Interesting. We use IRC for work, and I find the Adium client for that to be quite acceptable.

I'd be using IRC over Pidgin right now if work wasn't blocking those ports for some reason, forcing me to resort to webchat clients. But hey, I will be working somewhere else as of Tuesday, so there's that.
