I've been saying this for the last two years or so: when Pat Buchanan is writing columns that make sense, you know the Bush administration is nothing but trouble.

Though I tend to disagree with his stances (now there's a shocker), I've long had the opinion that Buchanan is a sharp political thinker and a smart guy. Just, you know, one with whom I totally disagree on most things.

man, that's just scary.

unfortunately, we have a president who literally believes he can do no wrong. thus, we'll stay in Iraq, steadily losing support and troops, until he's either voted out of office... or forced out by an event so horrible that even the Republican party won't stand for it.

everyone registered to vote out there? do it now. your vote has never been more important.

Eh. Every few years or so, when faced with the spectre of an interventionist/expansionist conservative government, leftists re-discover Pat Buchanon and enjoy a brief infatuation with him. I recall very clearly this happening during the last gulf war.

Then reality sets in: Buchanon is a vicious, crazy thug who would happily see me and everyone I love packed off into the hold of an oil tanker, towed out into the Atlantic and sunk to the bottom.

Sure, a stopped clock is right twice a day. Still doesn't mean you should waste any effort looking at it when you want to know what time it actually is.

Didn't everyone also feel somewhat kindly towards him during the Florida Dimpled Chad Accidental Election fiasco, where he said that there was no way the Florida votes were correct because he would never have gotten that many votes? I was shocked, to be sure. Sometimes Buchanan is lucid, and I suspect that this lucidity has gotten him where he is today. Without occasional moments of clarity, he'd be another Net kook.

i'm pretty sure no one here was feeling kindly toward him. i, at least, was merely observing that things are pretty fucked up when he makes more sense than the president.

of course, for all i know, rone's been a closet Republican all these years.

You wound me, madam. I've got plenty of stuff in my closet, but certainly no room for that.
